This year, the annual World
Health Day celebration will honoured health workers – the most valuable
resources we have for health. The Pan American Health Organization and countries
throughout the Americas joined the World Health Organization in observing World
Health Day with events throughout the week of April 3-7, ending with a special
session on Friday, April 7. |

The Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) reflects a medium-term vision of
the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization for its
cooperation with a given country and defines a strategic framework for
working with that country. The time frame is generally 4-6 years.
The CCS constitutes a framework for PAHO/WHO cooperation in and with the
country concerned, highlighting what PAHO/WHO will do, how it will do it and
with whom. It clarifies the proposed roles and functions of PAHO/WHO in
supporting National Health Development. |

HISTORY
In 1954, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) under the administration of its Zone 1 Office in Caracas, Venezuela established a small office in Jamaica, on the Ministry of Health compound, Slipe Pen Road, Kingston. Malaria, a major health concern of that period, was the immediate focus of technical cooperation.
